Today was definitely a day for a skirt. I had nothing out of the ordinary planned, but I felt like putting on more than just denim cut-offs and a t-shirt. I decided to go with this periwinkle-colored, lightweight sweater I got from Martin & Osa last year. I never thought of wearing it with a bralette to be seen in clear view. But to take on the current trend of bearing intimate apparel, in comes the Eberjey bralette I got from Shopbop. They have the best selection of bralettes! I paired the two with this vertically ruffled Beckerman skirt (that I also got from Shopbop, go figure). It’s highwaisted and is a perfect length (not too long) since I’m only five feet tall.

As for the shoes, I went with these Loeffler Randall sandals that I rarely ever wear. I absolutely LOVE this brand! This shoe in particular is so dainty with the criss-cross straps across the foot and the strap around the ankle. The pyramid studs give them just enough edge. I accessorized my look with simple gold studs, a large cocktail ring from J.Crew, and a fringe necklace from Madewell. I literally thought this look up a couple of days ago. I’m so glad that I took the chance to try it.

I will always be a fan of J.Crew. They have some of the best cardigans and for anyone that knows me knows that they are a staple in my wardrobe. Now that Jenna Lyons is the head honcho, we have nothing but great things to expect from future collections. For fall 2010 we’ll see chambray button-downs, utility pieces, tweed textures and furs. The models were definitely rocking the hobo-chic look. Sloppy fish-tail braids and looks that weren’t so pulled together. They were accessorized with hats, brooches, necklaces, textured tights, ankle socks and even men’s ties.

Well there’s no better way to dress down a wedding gown than to add messy hair, a utility-style jacket, grungy boots, and fingerless arm warmers. This is a great photo.

I wasn’t very sure as to how I wanted to wear this silk top from Anthropologie (by Dolan). I definitely knew I didn’t want to wear it with jeans, although it would look great with skinnies to balance out the looseness of the blouse. Wide-leg jeans that are fitted through the thigh would be great for a more boho look. So ignoring the obvious I went with a white, gauzy BCBG Max Azria skirt and bubblegum pink lips (that you can barely see). The bubble hem was a risk because the blousiness of the top already added enough volume. A fitted skirt would have been ideal, but why not add more volume?! Since I added the waist belt from Martin & Osa it gave me the hour-glass shape I needed to tame the two together. Perfection! I loved the outcome! Oh yea, the sunglasses are also from Anthropologie. I love that store.

Feathers and fur could be found all over the runways for fall. From clothing to shoes and accessories. Chanel had soooo much fur in it’s fall show. I would say it was an overkill, but it’s Chanel, they can get away with anything. I really liked the fur pencil skirt from Michael Kors. Definitely added some nice volume, but wasn’t too much. It was also unique to see how ADAM used fur on the sleeves in the photo above.

I’m not so sure about the whole feather movement. While they may look pretty, they can’t be all that comfortable. The Alice & Olivia skirt is gorgeous, but I know I wouldn’t buy it. Let’s keep the feathers to a minimum and leave them on accessories like earrings and necklaces.

The temperature didn’t even break 80 degrees today. I’m loving this cooler weather. I decided to go with these Seven skinny jeans and this linen-like, white and blue striped button-up from H & M. I’ve been noticing in stores, magazines and elsewhere that mixing shades of blue is IN right now. Even mixing denim! Yes, I know it’s tricky, but there’s a way around it. You have to wear different washes together. Although my shirt is not denim, I definitely centered this look around the trend. The blue in my shirt is lighter than the wash of my jeans. Keep your accessories in neutral shades like camel and even gray would work. I chose to go with this camel-colored ruffle belt from the Gap and my Pelle Moda wedges.

Flipping through the J.Crew catalog for August 2010 I came across this unbelievable French leather vest. Even with the model wearing all white the vest still stands out. The only color to be seen in this entire photo is the pink on her lips and the red on her nails. But back to the vest! They’re calling it the Mongolian Lamb Vest and it’s going for $800. Ouch. Made in Paris by an artisinal haute couture mill, you will be sure to turn heads in this.

For those of us on a budget or would rather wear faux fur (or both), here’s a similar vest for you. This one is from Canada.Forever21.com and is selling for $9.99 (regularly $30)!

Creative Director Simon Kneen knew what would be big this season. Lots of military references and utility pieces went down the runway during this show. Kneen wanted it to be all about mixing. You’ll find a lot of formalwear paired with casual and sportswear. Anything that can be mixed and matched is great because you’ll obviously get more wear out of it. You’ll also have more options to work with.

Banana Republic comes out with some great jackets like the trench on the second model. I CANNOT wait to get my hands on the chunky long sweater jacket worn by the first model, Tao Okamoto. Another thing I love about this collection? The neutral tones. I wear a lot of gray and khaki. Soft tones can be worn with so much and any time of year. They look great against black too. Gotta love a little bit of contrast every now and then.

We can always expect something new and fresh from Gwen Stefani. For fall she wanted her line to be a little bit vintage, military-inspired, a bit of 50’s style, sexy and futuristic. With all of that as her inspiration, I think she nailed it and still had her rock-and-roll trademark in it. The models with their wavy hair and scarlet lips almost gave it a pin-up feel. Definitely contrasting the rock-and-roll look, but loving the collaboration of the two.

The bottom look is also a part of Stefani’s fall collection. Probably my fave out of the ones I’ve seen. Not to mention, I don’t know if you guys watch The Rachel Zoe Project on Tuesday nights, but Gwen Stefani was in the 8/17 episode. It took place in NY for Fashion Week and she talked about how these pants were one of her favorites. I LOVE the sweater, which can now be found on Shopbop! The entire slouchiness of this look works perfectly with the black lace-up boots.

You don’t have to put your minis away just yet, but this fall season is about the maxi. Seen throughout a number of collections, the maxi skirt (or dress) is definitely on my list of things to get. They’re being worn with all types of shoes. Try one with boots or ballet flats and a big cozy sweater for a dressed down look. If you want more of a ladylike silhouette pair it with a leather bomber. Dress them up with pumps or booties and a blazer or flowy blouse. The possibilities are endless. Have fun with them!
