70’s Redux

From On March 14, 2011

Thank goodness the weather is starting to warm up! I’m so ready to take on the new spring trends and flip them into my own personal style. The first one I tried is the whole 70’s look. It’s got a modern take on it this time around. I got these Level 99 wide leg jeans years ago from Anthropologie. I actually had them folded up and tucked away since I crossed over to the side of skinny denim. I paired them with this Dolce Vita cropped sweater. Love how it dips lower in the back, not to mention, the slits at the elbows. Unique.

The accessories I wore kind of had an old feel to them. The oversized sunglasses I got from Forever 21 and the brass locket necklace is from J.Crew. Had to have it. Now the bucket bag is (or was, lol) my mom’s. We found it cleaning out one of our storage closets. It’s woven cotton with cognac-colored leather trim and brass hardware. Not sure what decade it’s from. If not the 80’s than definitely the early 90’s. Even though you can’t see my shoes, they are a pair of heels I always forget I own from ALDO.

Self Reflection

From On March 7, 2011

It all started with this coat. I saw it in Macy’s (I.N.C.) one day and thought it was hideous. After days of thinking about it, my thoughts of it began to change. I went from hating it to kind of loving it. The volume on this thing was so over-the-top. It looks like the actual wool from a sheep (an entire sheep, at that), but it’s definitely faux fur. The shawl collar really makes the difference too. Imagine if it had a mandarin collar or was collarless. Wouldn’t be the same. I thought it would be so cute for a blog post paired with a mini skirt. So here we are!

I decided I would pull out my Michael Kors boots that havent seen daylight since college. That was at least four or five years ago. They’re pretty amazing and it’s funny how trends move in circles. Shearling detailing, studs around the bottom, a wooden platform, a mix of leather and suede AND they resemble clogs. But enough about the boots. The mini skirt is from H&M and I wore it with a basic black tee. The tights are from BCBG Max Azria. Love the black line going down the back of them. Unexpected and sexy. The knee socks and the leather Tano bag are both from Anthropologie. For a pop of instant color, I’m wearing Essie’s Punchy Pink nail polish.

Thank you to my sister, Ashleigh, for taking these photos for me!

Pretty In Pink

From On February 24, 2011

I’ve had this Catherine Malandrino skirt for the longest time and recently I’ve been thinking of selling it. I remember when I first fell in love with it at Urban Chic. Its highwaisted style, the ribbing and its light pink color, of course. Only thing was, I didn’t love the $300 price tag. I patiently waited and kind of forgot about it until I walked in weeks later to find it on sale. Score! I knew exactly how I wanted to wear it too.

In comes this sheer silk top by Sparkle & Fade that I got from Urban Outfitters. Since I’m all about accenting the waist, I added this ridiculously gorgeous belt by Jasper & Jeera from Anthropologie. Love the leather with brass detailing. Let’s not overlook that it’s completely covered in glass beads. I can always find a greatly unique belt in that store. The platforms I got from ALDO and the Jacqueline Jerrot clutch is from the seriously missed Martin & Osa.

My Valentine’s Day Getaway

From On February 18, 2011

This past weekend I went on a little getaway to visit a certain someone. I had a great time and enjoyed the beach all too much. The weather, as you can see, was perfect. We went to Key Largo for Valentine’s Day, which also happened to be my 27th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! I got this maxi dress from H&M last summer and found Florida to be the best opportunity that I’ve had to wear it. Or maybe I haven’t worn it because it’s probably 10 inches too long for me. I can’t stress it enough when I write, but I love the contrasting black and white print!

A Long Awaited Unveiling

From On February 2, 2011

I wore this out during my shopping trip to Annapolis last weekend (see previous blog, here). As you can see we got several inches of snow a few days ago and it’s still lingering around. I guess now was the perfect time to unveil this coat that I’ve had for at least a year. I rarely shop at The Limited, but the day I decided to go in there I ended up walking out with an amazing deal. It has batwing sleeves, a shawl collar and a zigzag print in brown, black and white that I love. Looks like something I could have gotten out of my great grandmother’s closet. I wore it with my Blank skinny jeans, Modern Vintage boots, and scarf from J.Crew. Let’s not forget my Tierney City Andrea Brueckner bag!
