Brown, Black & A Bit of Western

When I see these photos I can only wonder what was going through my head when I put this together. I remembering walking by this Ralph Lauren button-up in a store and thinking it was awful, but for some strange reason was very intrigued by it. The ruffles at the neck brought together by a huge bowtie. Let’s not skip over the fact that it’s this Western-looking plaid print. I thought it may look amazing with these pleat-front trousers from H&M. You might remember them from Two Yellow Lines.

I wanted simple accessories due to the plaid. I have no idea what made me think of this woven leather, mocha brown colored belt (by Linea Pelle) I got a while ago from Anthropologie and matching leather clutch (by Jacqueline Jarrot) from Martin & Osa. Years ago I despised the idea of the colors brown and black being worn together. But here I am wearing exactly that. And with plaid! I just recently (and barely) jumped on the plaid bandwagon this summer. So all three of them together is surprising. With sky-high pumps, I couldn’t be more thrilled about how this look turned out. Wow.

Thanks again to Laurie for taking these pics for me!

Last Taste of Summer

From On September 27, 2010

Right when we thought summer was gone it comes back to give us a last taste of that miserable 90 degree weather. So a couple of days ago I thought to throw on a knee-length tank dress from BCBG Max Azria Runway, a DIY cut-off denim jacket from the Gap and my Sam Edelman gladiator sandals. It was a little warm for the jacket, but I figured it would look great with the collar turned up for the photos.

I went overboard with the necklaces, 3 necklaces to be exact, and loved it. All of them are from Express and all of them I got yeeeears ago. Back when I actually loved to shop there. It’s changed SO much since then and I’ve pretty much lost most if not all interest. They all have this tribal-esque looking vibe and are made of natural materials. Pretty refreshing if you ask me.

Funny Face

Funny Face

Took some fun new pics today and daringly decided to rock this bright pink lipstick. Definitely not something for everyday. Not for me, anyway. I figured I’d title this post whatever the name of the lipstick was. To my surprise, I found it to be called Funny Face (by NARS). How fitting, huh?

Fall 2010: Tracy Reese

Oh, Ms.Reese! I knew there was a reason why she was one of my favorite designers. I didn’t have words for this collection when I first saw it. The fall collection doesn’t really look like something she would create, but oh how I love it! I would wear every piece in this collection. The color palette, the textures, the chunky knits, the silhouettes. Everything is perfection. She clearly focused on layering which is always big for fall. She incorporated stirrup pants, arm warmers, and cozy scarfs. All of which I love. The translucent knit tights a lot of the models were wearing are right down my alley. I know I will be sure to buy a similar pair before the cooler weather even arrives. She also played up the different textures by using jacquards, crystal embroidery and faux fur trims.

Isn’t the above photo gorgeous?! It’s a little Madonna-esque with all the lace, black tights and the necklace. Way more girly and feminine though. I couldn’t help myself. I had to include this photo.

So this is the conclusion of the designers I decided to highlight for fall. Take a look back at the collections I blogged about from L.A.M.B., Banana Republic, and J.Crew. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did!

How To Be Trendy At Work

From On September 15, 2010

As fall fashion creeps its way back into stores many of us are starting to transition our wardrobes to prepare for the change of seasons. This includes everything we wear to work. It’s been a while since I’ve had my friend Laurie on the blog, but here she is! This time I photographed her in trends that are great for the workplace. Everything she is wearing is BCBG Max Azria styled with a classic pair of black peep-toe pumps by Nine West.

This short-sleeved jacket is amazing! Just light enough for cool summer nights and straight into fall. Sorry you can’t see the dress that well, but it’s the perfect length! Ladies, this is important! The dress stops just above the knee which is appropriate for work and it does not pass the hemline of the jacket. It also has a 3/4 length sleeve which is nice for the office once the jacket is removed. Pair with a black, gray or camel-colored (the colors in the dress) satchel and you’re ready to go!

This second look is a great example of mixing prints that is subtle enough for the office. I added a thumbnail of a close-up in hopes that everyone can see exactly what she has on. The button-up is white with black pinstripes and the pencil skirt is some kind of black and white dotted/checkered looking print. Now the skirt originally had a black waistband, but I added a waist belt for fun. The buttons stop at the top of her bust, leaving the neckline open just enough without revealing too much. Pair this look with a tote or hobo style handbag in a bright shade for a pop of color.

This has to be my favorite look. The solid black with a touch of leopard print is perfection! Laurie is wearing a black top with a black bandage skirt. The waist belt is ridiculous with its gold detailing. Great combination. The key to pulling off an animal print is not to over-do it and it’s usually best to wear it with solid colors. This look would look great with a black duffle style handbag. Keep it neat and simple when wearing animal prints.

Each of these looks can be worn now. As the weather gets cooler just simply add a pair of tights or nude stockings and you’re ready (and on trend) for work!
