Banana Republic strikes again! I first saw these jeans posted on their Instagram account and thought to myself about how much I needed those jeans. But then the holidays rolled around and I didn’t visit a mall for maybe 2 months. I never got the chance to actually try them on. Until the other day. Expect they were now on sale PLUS an additional 60% off. I got them for $9.60. $9.60, people!! I got super lucky because maybe 3 were left and one just happened to be my size. It was meant to be.

Also, the Elizabeth Bucket Bag will no longer be available after February. Better snag one for yourself while you can!

What I Wore: Club Monaco sweater (old), Banana Republic jeans (on sale HERE), Love,Cortnie ‘Elizabeth’ Bucket Bag (HERE), vintage necklace from Atlantis Dry Goods, Mom’s vintage earrings, Melt Cosmetics lipstick in Stupid Love

Earlier this week it finally hit below 60 degrees in Miami. I woke up the other morning and it was 49 degrees. Yes. I know many of you are buried under 100 feet of snow right now, but this was a welcome change for me. I was finally able to break out a few sweaters. I even got fancy and put on a beanie lol. So not necessary, but whatever!

You’ve also got just about a month left to get your hands on the original KeKe Bucket Bag. It will no longer be available after February! Seen here in the spotted calf hair option, but available in solid white calf hair and a cow print option.

What I Wore: Men’s sweater (old, alternate HERE), J.Crew pants (HERE), Aldo booties, Love,Cortnie KeKe calf hair & leather bucket bag (HERE), Forever 21 beanie

W. U. W.: The Start of My Brand

From On January 20, 2016

StyleLust Pages: What's Up Wednesday: The Start of My Brand

Welcome to the second “What’s Up Wednesday” post! If you missed the first one you can check it out HERE.

Today I’m talking about my brand. Did you know that Love,Cortnie got its start in my grandmother’s kitchen?? Well, it did! Let’s take it back a little bit. So I have over 10 years experience in retail. 10 years! From sales associate, assistant manager, merchandiser, manager…you name it. I’ve worked at the Gap, Anthropologie, BCBG Max Azria, Macy’s and J.Crew. But it wasn’t until I worked at Macy’s did I meet my blessing in disguise. I couldn’t stand to shop at Macy’s and have no idea why I took a management position there. Ugh. The worst frickin’ months of my working life. I’m not the kind of person to just up and quit. But Macy’s…Macy’s almost had me lose my shit. The day I had finally had enough was the day I went up to my manager’s office and quit. Straight quit y’all. As soon as I left her office I had the biggest grin on my face. Like a weight was lifted. But now I had no job and I had no idea what I was going to do.

I can’t even remember what month it was when I quit, but I couldn’t find work for a few months. I had a lot of free time on my hands. I had always wanted to learn how to sew, but could never find the time to just do it. Well…*que music*…there was no better time than now. It was important to me that my grandmother teach me. I grew up watching her sew all of the time. So when I asked her she was more than happy to. I went over there and she had her sewing machine set up in her kitchen with scraps of fabric for me to learn on. I’m practicing and practicing and it hit me, “It would be cool to make a clutch.” Of course, she said she’d show me. I’m not even sure if she knew how to make one at the time, but we did it together. It took us over 3 hours!

We ended up going to JoAnn’s. Me being jobless I didn’t have much money to just be buying fabric with. We got enough stuff for 3 different clutches. Those were the 3 that I started my Etsy shop with a week after learning to sew. Within that week that I learned I wrote a blog post about it. Read it HERE. I had been blogging for 2 years at the time so I asked my blog readers what they thought about my idea of opening an Etsy shop. Their responses are a big reason why I did. It was just going to be something I did for fun. A little hobby I had that could possibly make me a little money while I was in between jobs. My grandparents pretty much paid for a lot of what I needed to get started. I owe them a lot when it comes to Love,Cortnie. Eventually, I took a job at J.Crew. I loved it, but I was so over working in retail. It got to a point when I realized I was making more with my business in a week than I was working a job. And consistently. I knew it was time to make that jump. I put in my notice and I’ve been running my business since. That was almost 2 years ago.

It’s crazy looking back and realizing that my brand got its start in my grandmother’s kitchen and I hadn’t even known it yet. Now every time I talk to her she talks about how proud she is of me and how she can’t believe what’s come of it. Just the other week she told me that this is what I’m supposed to be doing. I will always remember that.
