I was prepared and snatched it in my size as soon as it hit the site. Y’all know how I feel about pink!

So do yourself a favor and check out her site. Get yourself one of these dresses and thank me later. You’re welcome.

Orange Pop

StyleLust Pages: Orange Pop

I wore a version of this to the cutest little event at Tea Room Miami yesterday. I say a version of this because I wore my lace-up sandals and a different bag. This is what I wore later in the evening. I just wanted to be comfortable. I have definitely learned that heels aren’t always necessary and that it’s perfectly fine to dress up a pair of flats.

I had an awesome time though. My first actually event that I’ve gone to since I moved to Miami over a year ago. I must do better! I met some pretty amazing people. I always enjoy getting out and conversating with like-minded people. I loved it!

What I Wore: Forever 21 dress (old), Schutz heels (old), Love,Cortnie ‘Color Me Foldover’ Clutch in camel (HERE), MAC lipstick in Morange (HERE)

Pleated Gold

StyleLust Pages: Pleated Gold

I’m just going to start by saying that I felt too damn glamorous in this maxi skirt! Whaaaat?? I’ve had it for a few years and even dressing it down with a backwards, tied and tucked tee it still looks pretty dressy. Just a casual kind of dressy. I think the blue lip may have contributed to the awesomeness too. My first time wearing it and I was surprised by how much I loved it. All the way, yes!

What I Wore: LA Made top (old, alternate HERE or HERE), BCBG Max Azria skirt (old, alternate HERE), Love,Cortnie ‘Nicole’ Bucket Bag (1 left HERE), J.Crew sandals (HERE), ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick, vintage earrings

W.U.W.: Lessons Learned On The West Coast

From On May 18, 2016

StyleLust Pages: What's Up Wednesday - Lessons Learned On The West Coast

Many may not know that after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006 I moved to California almost on a whim. I thought I was done with school and I had no intention of going back. Well until my God-Mother asked me a simple question…if there was anything I would want to do, what would it be? My mind immediately thought of fashion school. I couldn’t imagine living in New York, so I decided on California. I applied to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). I even went to visit. I remember having to do a project as a part of the application process and I had so much fun doing it. I thought that if fashion school was anything like this that I’d love it.

Well, it wasn’t. It was a lot of work, group projects, presentations and commuting. I commuted an hour and half each way to get to school. It was dark when I got up and sometimes it was dark when I got back home. It also took me 2 trains to get there. I wouldn’t dare try to drive. Traffic was no joke. It was exhausting. I quickly learned how to conquer public transportation and my fear of getting lost. The sacrifices we make for the things that we want, right? It was also my first time being so far from my family since I went to college 20 minutes away. I think that’s when I really started to come into my own. Meeting new people, adjusting to brand new surroundings, paying rent and bills. Shit got real.

It only took 9 months to graduate from FIDM since I already had a degree. Thank goodness. I worked at Anthropologie for the majority of the time that I lived in Cali. I loved being surrounded by fashion. Seeing new collections and trends. I also learned a lot about visuals because we all know Anthropologie has stunning visuals unique to every store. They were very big on the customer experience there. But I ended up picking up a second job at a Retail Consulting Firm. I loved everything about that job. I learned so much. Working behind the scenes and knowing what would be next in fashion, working with buyers, helping with fashion shows, attending tradeshows. It. Was. Awesome.

Going to MAGIC in Vegas was amazing. I got to go twice with 2 different jobs. I went with a clothing label where I took orders from buyers and the second time I went was basically to observe. I got to see way more doing this. Taking notes of what I saw, taking pictures of the people and trending patterns I saw in upcoming collections. I then would put together a roundup of everything to send out to buyers we worked with. Working in the Fashion District in Los Angeles, again, being surrounded by fashion. It was everything. The building I worked in was home to dozens of showrooms. And of course I walked through every once in a while.

I was only living in California for about a year and half before I moved back to Maryland. In that short period of time I learned a ton and had irreplaceable experiences. Experiences that shaped me today for the small business that I run. If anything it taught me to explore, experiment, stand up for and go after what I wanted. Shouldn’t we all?
